Native American Astronomy Essay Example For Students
Local American Astronomy Essay For a long time space experts and individuals the same have continually caught wind of the perceptions and records of the Chinese and Europeans. No other culture can give as much data as that assembled by the Chinese and Europeans, however there are numerous different societies that watched and recorded the night sky, one of those being the Native Americans. During the last fifteen to twenty years archaeoastronomers have revealed much concerning the convictions and records of Native Americans. Shockingly, the techniques for tracking cosmic occasions were not as straight forward as the Chinese and Europeans. The Native Americans needed to utilize what they could to record what they watched. Their records were found on rock and cavern drawings, stick indenting, beadwork, pictures on creature skins and narrating. One of only a handful scarcely any dateable occasions among the different records of Native Americans was the 1833 appearance of the Leonid meteor shower. The most evident records of the Leonid storm show up among the different groups of the Sioux of the North American fields. The Sioux kept records called ââ¬Å"winter counts,â⬠which were an ordered pictographic record of every year painted on creature skin. In 1984 Von Del Chamberlain recorded the cosmic references for 50 Sioux, forty five out of fifty alluded to a serious meteor shower during 1833/1834. He additionally recorded nineteen winter tallies kept by different fields Indian clans, fourteen of which alluded to the Leonid storm. The Leonids additionally show up among the Maricopa, who utilized schedule sticks with indents to speak to the entry of a year, with the proprietor of the stick recalling the occasions. The proprietor of one stick guaranteed records had been kept that way ââ¬Å"since the stars fell. â⬠The main score on the stick spoke to 1833. An individual from the Papago, named Kutox, was conceived around 1847 or 1848. He guaranteed that 14 years preceding his introduction to the world ââ¬Å"the stars down-poured everywhere throughout the sky.â⬠A more subtle Leonid reference was found in a diary kept by Alexander M. Stephen, which point by point his encounter with the Hopi Indians and notices a discussion he had With Old Djasjini on December 11, 1892. That Hopi Indian stated, ââ¬Å"How old am I? Fifty, possibly a hundred years, I can't tell. At the point when I was a little fellow eight or ten years there was an incredible comet in the sky and around evening time all the above was loaded with falling stars. (Stephen 37). During the lifetime of Old Djasini there was never an incredible comet and a sky brimming with meteors around the same time, yet he may be alluding to the comet in 1843 and the Leonid storm in 1833. The Pawnee have a tale about an individual named Pahokatawa, who was slaughtered by a foe and eaten by creatures, and afterward breathed life into back by the Gods. The legend goes that he tumbled to earth as a meteor and told the individuals that when meteors were seen falling in extraordinary numbers it was anything but a sign that the world would end. At the point when the pawnee clan saw the time the stars fell upon the earth, which was in 1833, there was a frenzy, however the pioneer stated, ââ¬Å"remember the expressions of Pahokatawaâ⬠and the individuals were not, at this point apprehensive. This shows how incredible a job space science played in the Native American culture. In spite of the fact that the Pawnee learned not to be apprehensive there were Native Americans who dreaded meteors. The Blackfeet of Montana accepted a meteor was an indication that infection would go to the clan in the winter the Kawaiisu thought a meteor began high and tumbled to the skyline was a sign of death. The Cahuilla thought a meteor was the soul of their first shaman, takwich, who was despised his kin. .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 , .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .postImageUrl , .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .focused content zone { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 , .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:hover , .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:visited , .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:active { border:0!important; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; darkness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:active , .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:hover { haziness: 1; progress: mistiness 250ms; webkit-progress: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relati ve; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-adornment: underline; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; fringe span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: intense; line-stature: 26px; moz-fringe range: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-enhancement: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916 b255 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u3ec98c8f09edcd3363febd948916b255:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Weed Essay Takwich meandered the sky around evening time searching for individuals a long way from their clan. In the event that he found a lost individual he take their soul and the individual home and eat them. The Shawnee accepted meteors were creatures escaping from the fierceness of some foe, or from some foreseen danger.(Howard 178) Many Native Americans considered the to be as great and magical. The Wintu clarified meteors as the spirits of shamans heading out to the great beyond. The Chumash alluded to meteors as a falling star. They accepted a meteor was a personââ¬â¢s soul on their way to existence in the wake of death. The Eastern Pomo accepted meteors were fire dropping from the sky. The most broadly acknowledged conviction was that meteors were the dung of stars. (Hudson 40) The Ojibwa of the upper Great Lakes had a tale about Genondahwayanung, which implied, ââ¬Å"Long followed brilliant climbing star.â⬠An Ojibwa says that Genondahwayanung was a star with a long wide tail which would return and obliterate the world sometime in the not so distant future. The shaman said it descended one thousand years prior. He said it was much the same as sun, radiation, consuming warmth in its tail. The comet was said to have singed earth with the exception of Native Americans, who were cautioned by a Holy Spirit, Chimantou. The creatures were murdered off it was so hot stones were said to have dissolved. It is said the comet descended and spread for a significant distance. Another type of record keeping were rock petroglyphs, or pictures cut into rock. The western piece of the United States is loaded up with these photos, yet any dating is practically inconceivable. It is exceptionally hard to decide if the item drawn is a meteor or a comet. The most well-known petroglyphs are a hover with a wiggly line originating from it. Different archeologists have deciphered these as meteors, comets and snakes Records were additionally kept as ceramics. A Hopi container that was discovered had a scene that had mountains, stars and three articles falling towards the ground. This scene infers a meteor shower or a meteor that split up as it fell. It might be conceivable that this container delineates the Leonid tempest of 1833. (Hudson 41) Native Americans likewise achieved their records by building structures that would watch the sun. the Bighorn Medicine Wheel in Wyoming dates to AD 1400 to 1700. Lines drawn between significant markings on the wheel point to the area of solstice dawns and nightfalls and furthermore toward the rising purpose of the three most splendid stars that ascent before the sun in the mid year. Around fifty medication wheels have been found, a few are a large number of years. A considerable lot of them have a similar arrangement as the Bighorn Medicine Wheel. In Chaco Canyon, New Mexico two spirals cut into the stone by the ancient Anasazi can be utilized as a schedule. A knife of light infiltrates the shadow of nearby shakes. The knife moves with the sun to various areas on the winding. the full example likewise mirrors the 18.6 year pattern of the moon just as the yearly pattern of the sun. The old Native Americans were not complex space experts in the feeling of intelligible hypothesis behind the developments of eminent items, their degree of comprehension of the time patterns of the sun, moon and planets was incredible. The strategies for recording and monitoring the occasional developments was sharp and presentations a social wealth that differs from clan to tribe.Astronomy Essays

Biopsychosocial Model of Addiction Essay
The Biopsychosocial Model of Addiction is effectively the model that interests to me most. This model expresses that dependence is the consequence of various, cooperating factors, the quality of which change between people. At the point when I was watching every one of the models, I wound up concurring with a few of the various angles from which they were introduced. At that point I unearthed this model, obviously expressing that there isn't only one certain model that clarifies enslavement appropriately, yet a few unique ones. As the Biopsychosocial model just consolidates different models into a solitary model, I am effectively ready to clarify my perspective. It couldn't be any more obvious, I concur with each the Moral, Sociocultural and Biopsychosocial models of compulsion. I do accept that habit is the outcome of individual decision, yet that outer conditions, for example, culture, ethnicity, religion and condition likewise assume a major job. Basically, I accept that everybody is equipped for settling on their own decisions. From an individual encounter of mine, I have been around drugs since the 6th grade. Iââ¬â¢ve consistently been the individual that sort of stayed with the individuals who required assistance, so thatââ¬â¢s the group that I coincidentally was a piece of. What's more, despite the fact that my own life at the time was particularly in the pits, I never found motivation to join the group. It was consistently a matter of revealing to myself that it was not something that I needed to be a piece of. Indeed, even as I attempted to impart my insight to that gathering of individuals who were just doing it in light of the fact that, ââ¬Å"they had a great deal going on and just didnââ¬â¢t realize how to deal with itâ⬠, they were all the while settling on the cognizant decision to pick wrongly. It doesnââ¬â¢t matter what foundation an individual has or what addictions run in their family; on the off chance that an individual needs to maintain a strategic distance from dependence , at that point itââ¬â¢s up to them to never place themselves in the circumstance to get dependent, itââ¬â¢s basic. Then again, itââ¬â¢s simple to become involved with what society finds a pattern, particularly in this age; and shockingly the greater issue is that individuals blame their own destructions throughout everyday life so as to get something. Time and again individuals let what their way of life says or what theâ world says choose what their identity is. Actually, I could mind less what the world says. In the event that I donââ¬â¢t need to temporary fad whatââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"coolâ⬠or ââ¬Å"socially acceptableâ⬠, at that point Iââ¬â¢m not going to do it, paying little mind to whatever kickback Iââ¬â¢ll get. What disturbs me most about individuals today is that everybody has a reason for their bad behavior. Itââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"well my father was a heavy drinker so that ââ¬Ës why I amâ⬠or well I experienced childhood in Detroit where medications were terrible, so itââ¬â¢s exactly what Iââ¬â¢m used to doingâ⬠. No, thatââ¬â¢s poop. On the off chance that an individual doesnââ¬â¢t need to surrender to fixation, at that point donââ¬â¢t do it! So truly, itââ¬â¢s clear to state that I certainly lean more towards the Moral Model of Addiction, however I am additionally inclined toward understanding its Sociocultural side also. You will be unable to pick where you originate from, yet you can choose where you go from here. Habit all beginnings as a decision, and the degree of fixation might be affected by various variables, however the problem that is begging to be addressed is the thing that individuals permit to characterize them. Itââ¬â¢s heartbreaking today that more occasions then not, individuals are permitting any hindrance be their motivation to surrender to such addictions.

The Halls are Alive
The Halls are Alive After briefly lamenting the longer lunch lines upon the students return to campus, I reveled in the laughter and greetings heard down the Infinite alongside falling juggling balls, skateboards and scooters that signal the start of the fall term. But, even more than their sounds, I love to see and hear about all the cool things offered to students or started by students that decorate the walls. This year, because Ive been traveling, my eyes were attracted to posts that related to questions Id been asked by prospective students. What kinds of clubs do we have? Usually, we like to talk about MIT Beef and the Lab for Chocolate Science. I also like to share about the Assassins Guild Patrol Saturdays, but it was nice to see posters advertising blackjacks return to Cambridge. How supportive are MIT faculty in encouraging students ideas? What research opportunities are available? In preparation for a visit program, I made my first real visit to the Edgerton Center. The atmosphere is lively and a bit chaotic, but several things were happening at once: my meeting with Ed, one of the instructors, a transfer student was getting advice on the best classes for studying Course 2 or Course 6, and the afternoon seminar was arriving. They were encouraged to play with the models in the room and come up with hypotheses for why they worked/were built that way/etc. It also turned out that the transfer student had worked in the lab on a project to make motorized hamster wheels and a few other projects as a high school student. Two things were clear: no one would just be given answers, just more questions, and the lab is the epitome of taking an idea, running with it into several walls, and finally coming up with a product solving an academic inquiry or for your personal satisfaction. Speaking of research, the SENSEable City lab is doing really awesome things. Like, flying robots. Ocean Engineering is getting ready for a robotics competition. Theyre preparing this craft to recognize changing light signals and report the locations of the signals. How often do entreprenurial contests happen on campus? The students Id spoken to were familiar with 100K and were looking for other options. I couldnt readily think of others, but as soon as I got back, I saw opportunities like this: and evidence of other kinds of challenges which could lead to job opportunities like the Crypto-Challenge sponsored by the NSA, who want you to try to crack their code and submit your resume. It was great to see Doge was still relevant and learning Aikido, to boot. Happy Fall term, everyone!

In either case, it can be incredibly disheartening to realize your efforts haven't paid off as well as you thought they would. On top of that, figuring out where you went wrong can be rather difficult, which may lead you to throw in the towel on your content marketing initiatives before they even get off the ground. Before you throw your hands up in resignation, though, let's take a look at some of the most common reasons many content marketing campaigns fall short of their intended goals. 4 content marketing mistakes that may be costing you leads Before we dive in, let's admit that the true list of reasons a given content marketing campaign could fail is inexhaustible. Because so much goes into content marketing, Murphy's Law can rear its ugly head at almost any given time, for many different reasons. For our purposes, though, we're going to discuss some of the overarching mistakes and problems that could sabotage your content marketing campaign before you even get started. Not focusing on your true purpose Presumably, your goal is to generate more leads (and eventually more sales) by publishing intriguing and informative content for your audience to devour. But have you really thought about how creating such content will actually lead more people to purchase your product? Source: 87 seconds The only thing worse than seeing no increase in your visitor count is seeing an increase in your visitor count but no increase in your sales numbers. As you begin creating content, it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that your purpose is to create awesome content that leads your readers toward conversion. It can be easy to slip into a routine of churning out pieces of content that, while interesting and informative, simply don't do anything to move your readers further along the buyer's journey. Solution: Ask yourself the following question before you begin creating any piece of content: How will this content benefit my reader and bring them closer to conversion? It's essential to keep in mind that content is not your product; it's part of your marketing plan. [Click to tweet ] While the content you create absolutely should provide value to readers, it should also provoke them to take action and engage further with your brand. For individual pieces of content, you might aim to get your audience to sign up for a mailing list, follow your brand on social media, or share the article they've just read. Depending on the context, you might ask them to sign up for a demo of your product. While such calls-to-action are typically found at the end of a piece of content, they can also be placed within the content as appropriate. Over a longer series of content, your goal is to build your readers' understanding and curiosity about your brand and the services you provide. As this article from Copyblogger points out, you can use content to create "open loops" in your readers' minds that essentially keep them wanting moreââ¬âmeaning they'll look for ways to engage with your brand that ultimately may involve making a purchase. Always remember that your main goal is to have them come away from your content closer to converting than they were before they read it. Writing for a mass audience As the old saying goes: "If you try to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing no one." Unfortunately, when getting started with your content initiatives, it's tempting to create content that you believe will appeal to your entire consumer base at once. In doing so, you end up creating content that is either: So general that it doesn't provide value to any individual audience members So packed with information that it completely overwhelms your audience In either case, the result will almost certainly be the same: your potential customers will bounce from your content without taking the action you hoped they would. Source: Content Marketing Institute, lovingly recreated in Lucidpress Solution: First things first, make sure you've developed a variety of personas to target. Find out as much as you can about the people who belong to these segments: their demographic and geographic data, their personality types, and their actions and behaviors as consumers. Once you've defined and developed a number of customer personas, you can begin planning content intended for each of them (rather than using a "one-size-fits-all" approach). While this means you'll be creating more pieces of content, you'll ensure each piece of content will resonate with its intended audience. You can make sure the right content gets in front of the right person in a few ways: Categorizing posts on your blog by topic Implementing a search function on your site Allowing mailing list subscribers to choose which content they receive in your newsletter Focusing on one content format Typically, when most people hear the phrase "content marketing," they automatically think about blogs. But there are many, many more types of content out there for you to choose from. Source: iPullRank, lovingly recreated in Lucidpress Content marketing is the act of using content to market your brand. With that in mind, the following are just a handful of content types that you can leverage for marketing purposes: Podcasts Webinars Social media posts (see templates) eBooks (see templates) Infographics (see templates) Simply put, sticking to one type of content is a good way to bore your audience. No matter how valuable your blog posts may be, your readers will likely get tired of them at some point if you don't change things up a bit. Solution: Your first order of business is to determine which formats will best engage your audience. Some individuals devour podcasts on a daily basis during their morning commute, while others would rather read an eBook while relaxing on their couch at night. Still others might not have the time to devote to these ventures and would prefer to get quick-hitting information via infographic. As you do when figuring out what your audience wants to know, it's also important to determine how they want to receive this information. Even though you're going to create content in a variety of formats, that doesn't mean you need to create completely new content for each. In other words, you can repurpose content you've previously created and present it through a different format. You'll definitely want to tweak the content so it fits its new platform, but generally speaking, the meat of the content will remain the same. For example, when repurposing a blog post into an infographic, you'd typically include only the hard-hitting facts and statistics mentioned in the article (leaving out the "discussion" parts). By repurposing your most successful content in a variety of formats, you can give the piece maximum exposure across the customer segment it was intended for. Not following up (or through) In the intro, we set up a hypothetical scenario in which a content marketer creates a handful of blog posts, publishes them, then sits back and waits for business to start booming... and it never happens. A big mistake many marketers make when starting out with content is living by the old adage, "If you build it, they will come." It just doesn't work that way. With over 2 million blog posts being published every day, the chances of new readers just happening upon your content are practically zero. But, even assuming you do generate some traffic to your new content, you still haven't succeeded yet, and you can still miss out on major opportunities. Another mistake beginner content marketers make is failing to engage with their audience members after they've reeled them in. They also miss out on the opportunity to not only nurture these individuals through the buyer's journey, but to learn more about their needs. Solution: The solution here is two-pronged. First, focus on promoting your content. There are a number of ways you can do this, including: Sharing links via social media, adding relevant hashtags to the post Posting links in appropriate online communities, such as Reddit or Quora Engaging with influencers and bloggers who write about your industry to see if they'd be interested in sharing your content Once you've gained some visibility and have begun seeing audience members engage with your content, don't let them go. If they've left a comment on your blog, keep the conversation going; if they've shared your content on social media, shoot them a quick "thank you"; if they seem to be looking for more information, give it to them! Technically speaking, once your content has attracted a potential customer, it's done its duty. But the work you put into this content will be for naught if you don't follow up with the lead as soon as you possibly can. Key takeaway It's no secret that content marketing can be an effective way to attract highly qualified leads that have a good chance of converting. This is, in large part, why 92% of companies view their content marketing efforts as a business asset. But if done haphazardly, your content marketing efforts can lead to nothing but wasted time, energy and money. Before you dive into your next content marketing campaign, keep in mind that the purpose is not just to create amazing content, but to create amazing content that ultimately leads your audience toward conversion.
